How to use our English practice papers

We recommend using practice papers strategically during your senior school journey, alongside past papers from your target schools. You shouldn’t expect your child to start practising too soon, or they may become demotivated if they under perform. However, leave it too late and they will not be able to work through their exam quick enough to reach those all important questions towards the end of the paper.

Familarise yourself with the English syllabus and the questions on your target schools’ past papers. Once your tutor feels your child has practised comprehension and creative writing adequately, move onto practice papers. You should allow your child extra time for at least the first paper they attempt, but make sure they sit at least one in timed conditions. Schools typically allow 1 hour and 10 minutes for the English paper.

Beyond practice and past papers, expanding your child’s vocabulary and developing their creative writing skills are key. Ensuring they have read widely is hugely helpful here, and we have compiled a plethora of reading lists to help you.
