Admissions Process at 16+ Emanuel School

Looking for a tutor for Emanuel School admissions at 16+? Find out more about how we can help your child get into Emanuel.

Are you hoping to apply for Emanuel at 16+?

Gaining a coveted place in a Sixth Form is extremely competitive as the majority of schools are looking for students who will boost their academic results, which serves as the best possible PR for them.

A good school report and an impressive set of grades are vital for admission to Emanuel Sixth Form. Although the offers are unconditional, students are required to achieve at least a grade 7 or 8 at GCSE in their desired A-Level subjects. This is a far higher grade boundary than the one required of existing Emanuel students, who automatically gain a place.

To attract bright students, generous scholarships are available for a cohort of outstanding pupils who perform well in the exam. In addition to this, Emanuel has thrown the net out to the wider community in need of financial support with the assistance of the Battersea Rise Trust Awards charity.

Here is some background information, plus everything you need to know about the 16+ application process, and how best you can prepare your child.

Interviews

All candidates registered for the 16+ process will be interviewed by Zoom. The interview process is very rigorous, and the interviewer will be looking for interesting and developed responses about academic interests, co-curricular activities, as well as a discussion about a topical article they will be shown during the interview.

The thought of an interview can be quite daunting for some children who find it harder to express their views, which is why Mentor offer individual sessions to build confidence. Focusing on interview prep and what to expect, we encourage children to develop answers and present their best self. Reading about current affairs and discussing from different perspectives is always a good starting point, as well as having a favourite book up their sleeve.

Scholarships

Traditionally Emanuel has had an excellent scholarship programme at 16+ and the school has used this to attract pupils who would otherwise go to the Dulwich schools or KCS Wimbledon. As the academic standards at Emanuel have risen dramatically in recent years, the scholarship expectations have risen also. Many of our Tutors have had great scholarship success and are experienced with pushing the boundaries of learning for exceptional students.
