Family Aspirations
Freddie’s parents very much wanted him to go to school at Alleyn’s in South London where his older siblings already attend. They had a strong preference for co-ed schools.
Academic Diagnosis
Freddie’s parents knew their son was really bright but they were also aware of the intense competition for 4 Plus places at Alleyn’s. Initially, Freddie’s mother believed he did not require coaching, but they ultimately decided to give him the best possible chance of success, confident that he would excel in a mixed-gender environment.
Freddie demonstrated excellent all-around abilities, particularly in behaviour, but needed to improve his skills in communicating calmly and sensibly. Our insights at Mentor indicated that the 4+ testing at Alleyn’s is more academically rigorous compared to other top schools in South London.
How we helped
We focused on enhancing Freddie’s already advanced literacy and numeracy skills to ensure he stood out on his big day. We did this particularly by accelerating his phonics knowledge and developed his maths mastery of numbers up to five and beyond, as he was developmentally mature enough.
Freddie’s success
Freddie’s parents were delighted when he received offers from all five schools he applied to.
