Our Summer Holiday Courses are a vital part of of your child’s 11 plus preparation. For children in year 5 this is a key moment to solidify their curriculum knowledge and start to develop the advanced skills for multi-step mathematical problem solving, teach your child the tricks needed to approach standard reasoning exercises, explore the increasingly complex language being used for the comprehension task, and develop a storybank to ensure a brilliant creative writing essay. Our course has been written by our Director of Education who was Deputy Head at one of the best Prep schools in the country with years of experience preparing children for the 11 plus. All our teachers are experienced qualified teachers with a track record of successfully preparing children for the 11 plus.

July – Intensive Subject Week

Prepare your child for success with our Intensive Subject Week. Tailored for students facing challenges in specific subjects, each day offers focused instruction led by our team of expert educators. Drawing from diverse backgrounds, including the former Head of Maths at Pembridge Hall and a Doctor of creative writing, our teachers bring unparalleled expertise to guide your child through intensive learning experiences. Delve deep into each of the core concepts crucial to gaining 11 Plus success. We will ensure your child is equipped with the knowledge and skills needed get your child confident and thriving, even in the areas they find the most challenging.

• the four operations using the formal methods including decimals.
• Factors and multiples
• Compare, convert, add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions.
• Finding percentages of amounts
• Ratio and proportion

12:30pm – 3:30pm – Comprehension

•  a range of different texts which cover different genres and difficultly.
• vocabulary work and unpicking types of words (synonyms, antonyms etc)
•  working on answering a range of different questions which vary in marks, for example PEE structure when answering questions.
• Test technique ensuring the answers written are reaching full marks and how to work on pace to complete all the questions.

3:30pm – 5:00pm – Interview Technique

• A range of tips and tricks on how to answer interview questions.
• First impressions
• Logic games for team interviews

Week 2 – 27th -30th August

• Picture prompt writing
• Continuation of the story writing
• Writing a description
• Language developing (types of words, figurative language)
• Writing skills (sentence structure, sentence openers and senses)

12:30pm – 3:30pm – Reasoning

• Working through a range of methodologies for verbal reasoning (Inset a letter, move a letter, same meaning, hidden words, related words, compound words etc)
• Working through a range of methodologies for non-verbal reasoning (odd one out, changing pairs, complete the sequence, similar figures, reflections etc)
• Working on test technique (process of elimination etc)
• Applying the skills learnt to a range of mixed questions.
