Are you looking to get your daughter into Bute House Preparatory School at the 7 Plus? Find out everything you need to know about the school itself, the 7 plus exam and interview, and how you can help your child succeed.
Bute House Preparatory School for Girls is an independent day school located in Hammersmith, London. Bute House offers a dynamic and exciting environment that encourages its pupils to flourish and thrive. Established in 1958, Bute House takes in pupils aged 4 to 11.
Pupils of Bute House are known to go on to some of the best London schools, including the nearby St Paul’s Girls’ School. Entry at the 4 plus is strictly by ballot, with only 22 girls being offered a place. Children with a sibling already at the school are allowed in without having to get through the ballot. After the 4 plus, entry is academically selective, including the 7 plus.
Bute House Prep School fees are £6,858.50 per pupil per term, plus any extras. School fees and fees for additional services such as clubs and outings are all calculated by the Governors.
The registration fee for the 4 plus, 7 plus, or an Occasional Place is £100. The fee for sitting the 7 plus assessment is an additional £100.
Bute House holds open mornings in the spring and summer terms, when parents of those who are taking the 7 plus assessment the following January, are invited to tour the school. The Head will give a presentation about the school, and there will be an opportunity for visitors to speak to other members of staff and ask questions.
The closing date for 7 plus registrations and bursary applications for entry into Year 3 is the 31st October of the year preceding entry, or when the number of confirmed candidates gets to 200.
The assessment will occur at the beginning of the calendar year in January. The school welcomes around 200 girls for the whole morning, and they will engage in various enjoyable activities. All the tasks have been carefully planned to assess many different aspects of the candidates, such as reading competence, writing ability, mathematical skills, strategies, reasoning, and problem-solving.
At Mentor Education, we offer 7 Plus mock papers, to allow your child to familiarise themselves with these sorts of tests and develop their confidence.
After the assessment, you will be notified if your daughter has been selected to come back for an interview. The interview will take place in January, and the school will request a reference from your child’s current school.
Once at the interview, the pupil will discuss their experiences and views in a relaxed and calm atmosphere. There will also be an opportunity for parents to meet staff members. After the interviews, the school will discuss the candidates and either offer your child a firm place, or put them on a waiting list.
