How to use past papers

We recommend asking your tutor when they think is the best time to begin using practice papers. You want to be sure that your child has covered enough of the 7+ syllabus, or they won’t be able to complete a paper successfully. This can be incredibly demotivating.

You should check with your tutor to find out when they think your child will be ready for practice papers.

Initially, don’t time your child as they work through practice papers. Use the first couple to make sure they have a good grasp of the syllabus. Once you’ve established this, you can then set time limits when your child sits any practice papers.

Work through them from easiest through to hardest, keeping an eye on any consistent areas of strength or weakness. Make sure to explain to your child where they might have gone wrong once you have marked each paper.
