School Entry Results at Mentor

If you are embarking on an 11 Plus journey and are looking for a tutor then you want to make sure that you get results. We have helped over 90,000 children over 40 years,  and carefully track our results across all levels. Of course, we are proud of each and every one of our students. We are not a hothouse.

For children performing at the top end of the academic spectrum, we will work hard to get them into the most selective schools with academic scholarships. However, we work equally hard to get children who are all rounders into schools where they will thrive. We have a specialism in SEN which sometimes sees us get children into mainstream schools with the right support. However, sometimes success is getting that child into a mainstream plus or more specialist school. In short, one size does not fit all. Having said that, we know that parents will want to have some idea of our results.

When Do 11 Plus Results Come Out?

Sitting the 11 Plus process is usually a several stage process and so parents are likely to receive several letters or emails inviting children to the next round of assessments or stating that a child’s journey with that school has come to an end. Due to the high number of applicants for some schools, a pretest is often taken early in the Autumn which is used to cut a significant number of children from the process.  Families are often advised prior to Christmas if they have not got through the pre test, meaning that those children can at least relax and enjoy their Christmas without further studying or anxiety.

Second stage exams normally take place early January and interviews often follow in February.

Schools using the ISEB exam to assess children run their ISEB tests in November. Places are offered based on the further entrance procedures of each individual school.

School place offers are typically offered in March and parents have a month to accept.  This is a very broad brush calendar and many schools operate a different calendar.

Independent School entry

In our last cohort we saw 100% of our children get their first or second choice school. Around 90% had an offer from their first choice school. Approximately 10% got a scholarship offer. Getting to us in Year 5 is key to maximising chances and this needs to be a planned campaign.

We have detailed results for:

Grammar School entry

In our Grammar school cohorts, our average success rate is that 70% of children receive offers from their first choice grammar school.  Again, starting in Year 5 is crucial.

Grenfell

We have worked with a range of survivors of the Grenfell Tower disaster to improve their life chances. These pupils obviously had the toughest of journeys. We are proud to have been of some support to children from that tragedy as they embarked on their GSCE and A Level journey. Some of our first cohort are now at some of the finest universities in the land and we are currently helping our second cohort.

Support for Primary Schools

We work to support children at local primary schools. Our pro bono work here typically sees pupils go up two learning levels per six hours of tutoring in literacy and numeracy.
